New York, 28 October 2026. FlowX.AI today announced the appointment of Ray O’Brien to its Board of Directors. He brings more than three decades leading the mission-critical operations, risk and technology that the world’s largest banks depend on, as FlowX.AI moves AI out of pilots and into the core processes of regulated enterprises.
Ray O’Brien has spent over thirty years running mission-critical operations at HSBC, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, Nomura and Kleinwort Benson. He is currently Chief Operating Officer of Quantexa, a global leader in Decision Intelligence.
From whether AI works to whether it can be trusted
The appointment comes as FlowX.AI ramps up work with enterprises that want to move AI out of pilots and into core processes, with the control, compliance and reliability that regulated industries demand. Ray O’Brien has run exactly those operations, at global scale and under intense regulatory scrutiny.
“Enterprises have moved past asking whether AI works. The question now is whether they can trust it in the operations that matter most,” said Ioan Iacob, CEO of FlowX.AI. “Ray has spent his career running those operations inside the world’s largest banks, where reliability, risk and regulation are non-negotiable. His perspective will be invaluable as we bring AI into mission-critical enterprise processes.”
Three decades running mission-critical operations at global banks
Ray O’Brien’s executive experience spans COO, CIO, Head of Transformation and Head of Analytics roles. He began his career in 1989 as an equities trading systems developer at Kleinwort Benson, after graduating from University College Dublin with a degree in mathematics and computer science. He went on to roles in futures and options at Nomura and in risk at Banque Paribas and Deutsche Bank.
In 2001, he founded a risk management consultancy based in London and Germany. Its clients included Royal Bank of Scotland, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and HSBC.
He joined HSBC in 2004 as a member of the executive committee for HTS Global Banking & Markets, where he led Global Transaction Banking, Operations, and change delivery for Risk and Finance. He later became COO of Global Risk and Compliance and Global Head of Risk Analytics.
In that role, he led HSBC’s Global Standards programme, which remediated the bank under its five-year financial crime Deferred Prosecution Agreement. He also served on HSBC’s Group Risk Management Board and Group COO Executive Committee.
Since leaving HSBC in 2021, Ray O’Brien has built a portfolio career as a board director and advisor. As COO of Quantexa, he helps large organizations put AI-driven decision intelligence into production, and he serves on several boards.
“The real test for enterprise AI isn’t the demo. It’s whether it holds up in operations where failure isn’t an option,” said Ray O’Brien. “FlowX.AI is built for that reality, bringing AI into core processes with the governance and resilience large institutions need. I’m excited to join the board and help the team scale that impact globally.”
